I did a little ressearch on all the sanders available and found this sander to be the best value and had the best amazon ratings so I purchased it. I dont own a garage full of gadgets. I have read other reviews regarding the noise level of this sander and I disagree. With this sander, I bought sandpaper at Home Depot and it took me only a minute or two to cut the sandpaper purfectly to the base of this sander. I am more concerned of how well it works and whether it holds up over time. Because the base of this sander is square and not round, it will be much easier in the future to buy my own sandpaper and cut it to spec. I am EXTREMELY happy I did so and believe this sander to be better than the others because it allows you to buy your own sandpaper and you can cut it to the square base of this sander (other sanders have round bases which is a problem because it makes you obligated to buy THEIR sandpaper so that it will properly fit the sander. so I love this sander because even an idiot can use it.
There were no problems here. I am not a very technical person. All sanders are loud (its the nature of the beast) and I'm not going to worry about its loudness. This square based Dewalt sander does.
so that kinda rules it out for interior work. i have this same problem with pretty much all palm sanders, when they get about six months old the dust collector stops controlling the majority of the dust. i have tried taking them (i have two DeWalt palm sanders) apart and blowing it out and that helps for a few days. about a year ago i picked up a Bosch palm sander, as of yet it still controls nearly all the dust so if you are working in a shop without really good ventilation go with the Bosch. but all and all this is a nice smooth running machine.
I bought this sander for my wife to use on some of her projects. She found is very easy to use, especially in changing the sand paper. It has a comfortable hand grip and works well both on small and large projects.
There was a time when these were the best on the market. They seemed to have changed the feet material that the base plate is attached to since production moved south. Now, they tend to break and spin the plate, causing us to have to scrap them. I believe that calling them heavy duty is quite a stretch.
What else needs to be said dewalt is the best. Another fine product by them.
